Preparing to Read this Book
You may have noticed you’re reading a preparation rather than a preface. It’s my goal for you to be transformed by reading this book. I trust that what you have read thus far will prepare you to absorb the ideas, principles, and frameworks ahead and enable you to develop ideas for what you can do—personally and corporately—to shift into the Transformation Economy and thereby create greater economic value with your offerings.

To that end, before you continue to the first chapter, ask yourself these questions, and take the time to answer them thoughtfully, honestly, and thoroughly:
What business am I in today?
What genres of economic offering(s) do I have?
Do I see the forces of commoditization operating in my industry?
What are the ends to which my current offerings are the means?
Can I imagine being in the business of guiding transformations?
Let these questions open your mind to the possibilities of the Transformation Economy. You can even start to work on your business along the way.
And you can start to work on your business now!
At the end of each chapter you will encounter several questions that ask you to reflect on what you learned. Taking a few minutes with them will greatly increase the chance that this book will have an impact on you and make a difference for your business. You’ll also find questions to prepare you for the lessons of the next chapter, which will further get you ready to absorb what you read.
Further, this preparation is bookended by a reflection after chapter 7 to help you embrace everything you’ve learned across the entire book.
Of course, I can only invite you to read, consider, and use the questions within. The choice is up to you. But I guarantee you will gain much greater rewards from this book if you choose to do so.
